Worthless and Weak

It's entirely possible I've finally cracked, and lost the ability to distinguish reality from my overactive imagination. It's also entirely possible that, for all intents and purposes, I now have a girlfriend. It doesn't really matter, I've been looking forward to both conditions for quite some time.

So with nothing better to do on this rainy sunday, I've spent a lot of it reading old issues of Fantastic Four that I bought on a DVD about a year ago. At first, FF was full of a bunch of one issue stories which were actually pretty boring, with villains that weren't really that threatening and heroes which, although they may have been much deeper than the 1 dimensional heroes of the 30s and 40s, were still pretty two dimensional. The art was the Typical Marvel style of the 50's and 60's, and in my opinion, didn't impress.

However, about 40 issues in, they really hit their stride; the stories grew to span multiple issues and the villains became fascinating characters with deeper back stories, the Human Torch started being just a little bit more mature, which was great for the series (going from someone who just shows off or whines to somebody who shows off, whines, and comprehends the grander scheme of his actions is a huge difference).

Finally, the writing has evolved from the FF takes on the villain of the day to stories that have clear character arcs.
